Secureframe policy templates: what you get, and where Policyseed fits
Updated
People search for Secureframe policy templates while they evaluate Secureframe or before they buy a compliance platform. This page sets out what Secureframe’s templates are and how you get them, what Policyseed offers by comparison, when Secureframe is the right choice, and how to use both. The two do different jobs: Secureframe runs a compliance program, and Policyseed writes the policy documents.
Every statement about Secureframe is taken from Secureframe’s own public pages and help center, with the source numbered in brackets. Policyseed is not affiliated with Secureframe.

What Secureframe’s policy templates are
- New Secureframe users see a list of templated policies on the Policies page that they can customize and publish.[1]
- Secureframe says each template is written and approved by former auditors.[3]
- The policy editor supports comments, policy owners and version control, and an AI feature, Comply AI for Policies, that summarizes content and rewrites text in simpler language.[3]
- Once a policy has an owner, only that owner can save and publish it.[6]
- You publish a policy with employee acceptance required and assign it to groups such as new hires or employees; employees are prompted to re-acknowledge every 12 months.[1]
How you get them
- The templates are part of the Secureframe platform. Secureframe's pricing page lists Policy Management in its Fundamentals package and pre-built policy templates in its feature comparison.[2]
- Secureframe's pricing page lists its packages without prices.[2]
- Separately, Secureframe's free SOC 2 resources page offers an information security policy template and a vendor management policy template.[7]

What Policyseed is, by comparison
Policyseed is a free, open-source (Apache-2.0) SOC 2 policy generator. You answer 23 questions and your browser renders 22 policies as Markdown, with no account and nothing stored on a server. The optional Audit Kit ($59, one time) rewrites sections 4 and 5 of each policy around the tools you named and adds Word files, a criteria crosswalk, starter registers, an acknowledgment form and a review calendar.
Policyseed does not connect to your systems, collect evidence, monitor controls, track approvals or acceptance, or introduce you to auditors. It produces documents that your team owns and maintains.
You can read every policy before you decide: the template index lists all 22, the sample shows the Audit Kit output for a fictional company, and the Audit Kit page lists every file in the ZIP.
When Secureframe is the right choice
A compliance platform earns its cost through what happens after the policies are written. From Secureframe’s own pages:
- Secureframe's SOC 2 page describes automatic control testing from configuration data its integrations collect, continuous monitoring and automated evidence collection.[4]
- Secureframe partners with auditors and CPA firms that work with its customers, recommends one through your Customer Success Manager, and gives auditors read-only access.[5]
- Secureframe tracks which employees have accepted each policy and can send reminders to those who have not.[3]
If you expect to repeat the examination every year, have many systems to pull evidence from, plan to add frameworks, or have customers asking for ongoing assurance, Secureframe can save more time than any template. In that case starting from Secureframe’s own templates is reasonable, because they are already mapped to its controls. Policyseed does none of that work; it is a document generator.
How to use both
A common pattern is to write the policies first, with an owner for each, and bring them into the platform when you adopt one. Secureframe’s help center describes how:
- When you create a policy you can paste the policy text or upload one or more PDFs; Secureframe offers PDF upload for teams that already have their own policies.[6]
- Policies uploaded as PDFs can only be downloaded as PDF; Secureframe does not convert them to DOC files.[1]
- A custom policy does not link to tests on its own: you link the published policy to an existing policy or acknowledgment test.[8]
With the free generator, paste each policy's text into Secureframe's editor and check the headings and tables afterward. With the Audit Kit ($59), you can also export each Word file to PDF and upload it. Keep the Word or Markdown original in your own folder, because an uploaded PDF stays a PDF, and link each published policy to the matching tests so the platform counts it.
Whichever route you take, management approves the policies and a licensed CPA firm performs the SOC 2 examination. Neither tool replaces either step.
Frequently asked questions
- How do I get Secureframe's policy templates?
- They come with the Secureframe platform: new users see templated policies on the Policies page to customize and publish. Separately, Secureframe's free SOC 2 resources page offers an information security policy template and a vendor management policy template.
- How much do Secureframe's policy templates cost?
- Secureframe's pricing page lists its packages without prices, so ask Secureframe for a quote. We do not quote third-party estimates. For comparison, Policyseed's 22 policies are free under Apache-2.0, and the Audit Kit is $59 one time.
- Can I bring Policyseed policies into Secureframe?
- Secureframe's help center describes pasting policy text or uploading PDFs when you create a policy, and linking a published custom policy to the matching tests. Policyseed has no integration with Secureframe, so you paste or upload each policy yourself.
- Should I use Secureframe or Policyseed?
- They do different jobs. Secureframe is a compliance automation platform: integrations, automated control testing, evidence collection, acceptance tracking and partner auditors, with policy templates as one part. Policyseed produces the policy documents and nothing else. If you need the platform, start from its templates or bring ours; if you only need the documents, Policyseed is enough.
